FAQ

Q

What is the Purpose of the Visioning Process?

In January 1996 the Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) appointed the first Johnson County Citizens Visioning Committee (CVC) to develop a 20-year vision for Johnson County and to recommend a future role for County government.  The committee met on a biweekly basis from January 1996 through mid-July 1997.  The committee’s efforts were captured in a final report entitled, Living Our Vision: Johnson County 2020.

Since this initial vision was completed, the County has focused its efforts on implementation.  As a result, many of the committee’s major recommendations have been completed and it is now time to look ahead toward the next ten to twenty years.  In late 2009, the BOCC appointed a new committee to help guide this current process.  The CVC consists of 36 members representing a wide range of interest groups in the County.

As part of a year-long process, the vision will be updated reflect Johnson County’s accomplishments over the previous decade, recent trends and values, and chart the course for us to continue to live our vision for decades to come.

Q

Who is Leading the Effort?

The project team consists of the Johnson County Citizens Visioning Committee (CVC) with support from County staff and consultants.  Visit the Citizens Visioning Committee page on the website to learn more about individual committee members or click here to contact members of the project team.

Through a competitive bid process, the County hired a consultant team to help work with the CVC, provide maps and materials, and assemble the draft plan.  The lead consultant for the comprehensive plan is Clarion Associates, located in Fort Collins, Colorado.  Clarion is a firm that works with local governments to prepare community visions and plans.  Also part of the team is PlaceMatters, an independent 501(c)3 organization focused on innovative decision-making tools and methods.

Q

How Long will the Process Take?

The Johnson County Vision 2030 process is anticipated to be completed in early summer 2011.  View the project timeline or learn more on the About the Process page.

Q

How Can You Get Involved?

In order to be successful, the resulting vision must reflect the goals and aspirations of a wide range of citizens and stakeholder groups, including:

  • Interested stakeholder groups,
  • Board of County Commissioners,
  • Other agencies,
  • Service providers,

In order to solicit diverse input from the community, several “virtual” workshops, committee meetings, an open house, and other events will be scheduled during the process.  Check the News and Events calendar of this site for a complete listing of upcoming meetings and events, or sign up for email updates to receive regular project updates and notices regarding upcoming events.  Learn about other opportunities to get involved by checking the Join the Conversation section of this site.
