About the Process

The visioning process will continue through late 2011 and consists of four key steps:

Trends and Emerging Issues

May 2010 – February 2011

Step 1 will be used to establish a base of knowledge for the committee and the community about local, regional and national trends that are shaping the County’s present and will shape its future. The purpose of this step is to “inform the debate” about how different decisions might affect the County over the next ten to twenty years and to set the stage for the core values and vision discussion during Step 2.

Core Values and Vision

March – July 2011

Step 2 will be used to explore the implications of the trends and emerging issues on Johnson County’s future and begin to generate new ideas about the community’s core values and vision for the next ten to twenty years.

Community Outreach

August – September 2011

Step 3 will be used to seek input from county stakeholders and the community-at-large on the draft Vision Report Outline. This step will focus on gathering community through a variety of outreach mechanisms, including: such as an online community survey, speaker’s bureau, community forums and other activities as appropriate. Input gathered during this step will be analyzed and used to help refine the Vision Report Outline.

Finalize Vision Document

September – December 2011

Step 4 will be used to culminate the visioning process through preparation of the final Vision document. This step will start with refining the draft Vision Report Outline and preparing a draft report. The draft report will then be revised and the final Vision document will be presented to the Board of County Commissioners for consideration.
